REGISTRATION: 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. (ending promptly). Race start 11:00 a.m. Mandatory briefing 15 minutes prior to race start. Registration is at race start, intersection of Stud Mill Road, Machias River, CCC Road, and 43-00-00 Road (maps 25 & 35 in DeLorme’s The Maine Atlas and Gazatteer). FEES: $20.00 (ACA members will receive a $5.00 discount).
DOWNRIVER RACE COURSE: Mass start from the northern end of First Machias Lake across to the outlet which slowly meanders approximately 4 miles to the first significant rapid Karrick pitch. Karrick pitch is a class II-III rapid about 100 yards long with an optional portage trail on the river right. The river continues to the confluence of West Branch Stream, Boot Rips (class II) and many other small, rock strewn riffles eventually coming to the Rt. 9 overpass and Airline Rapids. Airline Rapids are a class II-III rapid about 300 yards long that start immediately after the bridge and end just before the finish line. The entire course is approximately 10 miles.
HELMETS ARE REQUIRED
OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATIONS AVAILABLE AT Wilderness Lodge: just two miles west of the Airline Bridge. Overnight lodging is available on a first come, first serve basis. The owners, Matt and Lisa Whitegiver, are delightful hosts and have agreed to put up with us again this year. Matt promises a BIG outdoor fire the night before the race.
